Welcome to ERA-AGE

The European Research Area in Ageing 2 (ERA-AGE 2) is a three year project funded by the European Commission, under the Seventh Framework Programme.  ERA-AGE 2 aims to continue the work of the highly successful ERA-AGE which ended in February 2009 after 5 years under the Sixth Framework Programme.  The project will secure, for the long term, the future of the European Research Area in ageing research and launch Europe's first joint research programme on ageing.   All partners are also committed to delivering the second round of the pioneering FLARE programme, progressively expanding the partnership and developing the resources on research infrastructure.

The ERA-AGE Database

The ERA-AGE Database is a powerful information resource. The database contains three different levels of information about European research on ageing; research funding agencies, research programmes and research centres and institutes. You can browse these data sources by type of data source, organisational name, country, discipline and research topic. The database also contains links to relevant external sites where available.

This resource is intended to be useful to a broad range of users, public browsers, scientists, user groups, funders and policy makers. The content is not intended to be exhaustive, it provides a useful starting point for browsers interested in finding out more about European research on ageing, and it will be continually expanded during the course of the project.

FLARE

FLARE is the first European programme on ageing research funded by the Member States themselves.

FLARE is the first European programme on ageing research funded by the Member States themselves. It is a pilot project which shows the ERA-AGE consortium's readiness and ability for collaboration. Launched in February 2007 the joint programme aimed to provide up to sixteen 3 year post-doctoral fellowships for recently qualified scientists. FLARE has two innovative features: part of the fellowship must be spent in another country and involve a cross-disciplinary collaboration. These novel features reflect the strong scientific consensus in ERA-AGE meetings on the need to develop a multi-disciplinary approach to ageing research and also a European networking in this area. Another key priority for both scientists and end users is the support of the next generation of researchers on ageing, hence the title, ‘Future Leaders of Ageing Research in Europe' (FLARE).The first pilot project was launched in February 2007 when the joint programme provided eighteen 3 year post-doctoral fellowships for recently qualified scientists.

A second round of funding will be launched in 2010.
