The Valdecilla Biomedical Research Institute is a management body, incardinated on the Marques de Valdecilla Foundation, by order of the Cantabrian Law of “Health Management of Cantabria” 7/2002 10th December, Chapter III, Title IX, Articles 102 and 103.
Since its inception in 1929, University Hospital Marques de Valdecilla has got as basic objectives biomedical research and science education. To reach high level of excellence, it is understood as not possible to separate quality clinical care and biomedical research training.
At the moment, we have 29 research groups (14 bound, 8 related clinical, 5 emerging and 2 crosscutting groups), around 415 professionals 60 of which are principal investigators.
The principal objective of Valdecilla Biomedical Research Institute is to encourage and facilitate these areas, to extend them to all hospitals and care levels on Cantabria Health Service and University.
