The Research Group on Aging and the Life Course has since 1985 conducted a large number of research studies (also internationally comparative) on institutional and biographical processes of aging and the transition to retirement as well as on the social and political effects of demographic change. The major empirical studies cover, among others, the following topics: Institutionalization of the life course Aging in firms Pre-retirement and transition to retirement Participation and activities in retirement Old age and trade union politics Partnership and family over the life course Intergenerational relations and transfers Life conditions and life concepts Inheritances and social inequality
