To become a world leading gerontology research and increase the visibility of such research within Saskatchewan.
Goals:1. To facilitate health research and training with a focus on gerontology including (but notlimited to) biology, biochemistry, education, neuropsychology, clinical health psychologyand kinesiology, and social work.2. To work towards financial self-sufficiency as a non-profit research centre requiringminimal financial contributions from the university.3. To attract operating and strategic research funds from provincial and national grantingagencies.4. To serve as a training centre for graduate education.5. To facilitate the development of interdisciplinary graduate programmes in gerontologyand provide research opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students.6. To facilitate collaborations among persons in Saskatchewan who conduct research onaging and/or health and to facilitate successful grant applications.7. To link with the health districts as well as provincial and national gerontologyorganizations while working toward the enhancement of aging and health research. Aspecial effort will be made to recruit researchers with interests on issues and problemsthat are of special interest to our province (e.g., rural health and aging; aboriginal healthand aging).9. To assist the U of R’s Seniors’ Education Centre by offering speakers and resources inorder to strengthen and further enhance its educational programs.10. To advance communications about aging and health to seniors, gerontology researchers,health researchers and clinicians through, for example, the production of a newsletter andweb page.
