Description

The division, headed by Prof. Dr. Hermann Brenner and including about 30 staff members, was newly established in the German Cancer Research Center in 2006.

Aims

To describe, monitor and forecast the burden of age-related diseases in the population. To elucidate the role and mechanisms of action of main risk and preventive factors of chronic age-related diseases. To explore new avenues of enhanced prevention, early detection and management of chronic age-related diseases.

Main research areas

The division's main areas of research include clinical epidemiology of chronic age-related diseases and epidemiologic methods. Conduct large-scale population-based epidemiologic studies on burden of disease, risk factors and preventive factors, new avenues of more effective prevention and early detection, quality of care, prognosis and patients' quality of life for chronic age-related diseases (with a particular emphasis on cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes mellitus, osteoarthritis and multimorbidity).
