Description
The Research Institute on the Economics of Aging is a part of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. Founded in summer 2006 it focuses on socio-economic issues in an aging population, such as aging in metropolitan areas, poverty among elderly people, productive aging and economic aspects of care for the elderly. The research institute is funded by the City of Vienna.
Aims
Questions of social policy in the context of an aging society are, apart from the pension system, a relatively underdeveloped research area in Europe. The Research Institute on the Economics of Aging wants to establish the economic consequences of population aging as a field of interest. Another important goal of the institute is to bundle aging-related research efforts taken at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.
Main research areas
* Social policy & aging * Economic aspects of long-term care * Poverty among the elderly * Aging in metropolitan areas
