Description

The IIS-Fundación Jiménez Díaz is devoted to research and development activities in various biomedical areas, including Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases to which our Laboratory belongs. The interest of our group relates to the identification of new therapeutic targets in highly prevalent conditions associated with aging, namely osteopenia/osteoporosis and renal function insufficiency. Our recent studies also focus on specific alterations in bone and renal cell activity triggered by certain comorbidities such diabetes mellitus in this setting.

Aims

Identification of new therapies in osteopenia/osteoporosis and renal function insufficiency related to aging and diabetes mellitus.

Main research areas

1) Characterization of the osteogenic features of several fragments of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) and thier impact in osteopenia/osteoporosis
2) Determination of the potential capacity of synthetic PTHrP peptides to promote bone regeneration
3) Role of PTHrP as a new cytokine involved in renal pathophysiology (renal failure and diabetic nephropathy)
