The Ministry of Science and Innovation (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación - MICINN) is the major research funding organism in Spain. During the year 2009 the Ministry granted more than 2900 research projects. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (DTHCS) had in 2009 a budget of 54 M€, used for granting more than 1000 projects.


The foundation’s main objectives: to promote in Spain a new model of scientific research based on “high risk / high reward” projects, in line accordance with some cutting-edge international initiatives; to encourage the leading role of the private sector in the most innovative biomedical research, enrolling partners and investors in the process of funding the research projects. To raise social and public awareness of neurodegenerative diseases in close collaboration with other initiatives and partners.
