Type of institution
The Leicester Nuffield Research Unit is located within the Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine at the University of Leicester. It is committed to good quality, multi-disciplinary, empirical research, using methods and disciplines appropriate to the research question. Expertise in the Unit includes: large-scale, secondary data analysis. statistical modeling. survey design and conduct. individual and group-based qualitative approaches. policy analysis and evaluation. systematic literature reviews. Associate members of Leicester Nuffield Research Unit bring clinical input and we work collaboratively with other colleagues in Health Sciences and beyond.
The Leicester Nuffield Research Unit (LNRU) undertakes high quality research to inform and influence the development and implementation of policies affecting the delivery and financing of health and social care, at local, national and international levels, in particular concerning older people and the health and care transitions they experience with ageing.
Main research areas
The epidemiology of ageing and the monitoring of population ageing through healthy active life expectancy Health and social care policies affecting population sub-groups including older people and minority ethnic communities Service delivery at the boundaries of organisational responsibilities e.g. primary and secondary health care; health and social care; the public, private and voluntary sectors . Major policy areas featured in current projects: Inequalities in health of older people Access to health care for vulnerable groups Developing health expectancy indicators across Europe Intermediate and long-term care Forecasting disability and long-term care needs
