Description
RICE is a Registered Charity (Ch No 1042559), opened in 1986 by our Patron,Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent. The Director of RICE is Professor Roy Jones BSc (Hons) MB FRCP FFPM DipPharmMed.The research carried out by the Institute covers a wide variety of areas and is intended to advance the knowledge and treatment of the more serious conditions affecting older people, in particular Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia and to improve their quality of life.
Aims
To carry out and publish effective research:
1 To improve knowledge of the ageing process
2 To improve the understanding and use of drug treatments for older people
3 To improve the quality of life for older people
To run Memory Clinics:
1 To provide an in-depth assessment for people with memory problems, Alzheimer's disease and related conditions
2 To provide focus for research
3 To offer appropriate education and/or training to elderly people, their families and carers and to professionals.
Main research areas
Clinical Research, Biological basis of ageing and age-related neurodegenerative disorders. Psychology , Neuropsychological research , Alzheimer's Disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Posterior Cortical Atrophy.
