If you find yourself getting a bit lost, try using one of the links below to get back to the beginning:
- ◀ Go back to the start page
You can search the whole database for specific search terms, choose a country or browse by category.
- ◀ Perform an advanced search
Useful when you know what you're looking for, and where the data might be stored.
- Browse all Research Centres and Funders
See a list of all centres from where you can view details and the programmes and projects that are associated with that centre/funder.
- Browse all Research Programmes
See a list of all the research programmes in the database. When you look at one you will automatically see which Research Funder/Centre it belongs too, and you can explore this programme's projects or see other programmes within the same funder/centre.
- Browse all Researchers
Individual researchers are not "attached" to any particular project or programme. If you want to narrow down the list you could choose a country on the start page and look at the list on the left of the page..

Summary of key aims
The Targeted Programme on Ageing (Progetto Finalizzato Invecchiamento) was approved by the Committee of Ministers for Economic Planning, a sign of the social and political impact that the growing proportion of older persons in the population has on the life of nations. It involved a vast number of both basic and clinical investigators in the CNR laboratories and research groups in the Universities together with the collaboration of local and regional authorities as well as important contributions from the private sector.
Age associated changes in physiological and social functions as well as the occurrence of diseases in these older italians has been documented under the rubric of five subproject areas: 1. Gerontobiology; 2. Longitudinal study on ageing; 3. Ageing and endocrine-metabolic diseases: pathogenesis; 4. Ageing of the sensory sustem and cognitive processes; 5. The ageing population: quality of the life and independence. This farsighted programme of research into the life patterns of the older people of Italy involved 213 research units. Most of these are based in the Universities, with important contributions from the National Research Council's own laboratories and investigators in other research institutions. The core component of the programme was the Italian Longitudinal Study on Ageing (ILSA). Some of the funded projects of this programme, after its deadline, received further financial supports even from different funded bodies (for example ILSA by ISS, nearby 20 projects by CNR).
