Summary of key aims
The aim of the MASC Research Initiative is to examine both the process and outcome of the modernisation of adult social care services. Commissioned studies will examine key mechanisms for modernisation (performance assessment, regulation, partnership working, national quality requirements etc) against desired policy outcomes (user-centred services, fairer access, more consistent services, enhanced independence and better protection). Two national studies were commissioned to establish the baseline picture in respect of 'pre-modernisation' regulatory and service structures, including consumer experience. Eight additional projects have since been commissioned that examine more specific aspects of the modernisation process.
