Summary of key aims
The rehabilitation process in the elderly is affected by factors related to ageing, specifically the development of impairments, comorbidity and cognitive impairments. Aim of the research programme is to determine to what extent physical impairments, comorbidity and cognitive impairments influence the current and future functional status in elderly patients. The functional course and its potential determinants are studied in three diagnostic groups of patients which differ with respect to the expected prevalence of physical impairments, comorbidity and cognitive impairments:
Patients with late symptoms of poliomyelitis. In this group physical impairments are studied.
Patients with osteoarthritis. In this group physical impairments and comorbidity are studied.
Patients with Parkinson's disease. In this group physical impairments, comorbidity and cognitive impairments are studied.
