Summary of key aims

The programme is aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of care for the elderly in nursing homes and at improving the quality of research on care for the elderly in nursing homes. There are 5 topics:
Research into the course of health, the degree of recovery and recovery-undermining factors in relation with co-morbidity and quality of life, in relation to the identification of the factors of prognosis that determine the quality of life.
Research into the effects, the effectiveness, the quality and the efficiency of nursing-home care.
Research into the effects of different nursing and care methodologies using the patients view on the quality of life/care as one measure of output.
Quality into the (effects of) reactivation/rehabilitation/treatment especially with regard to paramedic care.
Research in the field of measuring instruments for specific groups of patients in nursing home care (e.g. severe demented patients, aphasia patients and patients in the advanced (or end) state of chronic diseases) and on important healthcare problems concerning nursing home patients.
