Biography

Jorge Garcés is Full Professor and Director of Polibienestar Research Institute and Director of Official Master in Social Welfare at the University of Valencia. He has a PhD in Political Psychology (1985) and in Political Science and Administration (2003). In 1996, he funded the Polibienestar Research Centre, centre he manages since then and which aim is the improvement of the citizens' welfare. This centre has 17 researchers from 8 different departments of the University of Valencia, with the objective of tackling the interdisciplinary research both from technical and social sciences and which has achieved and developed 40 R&D projects, 40 research contracts and has published nearly 100 publications in the past 5 years. Dr Garcés has developed numerous research projects funded by prestigious organisations in fields related to social policy, mainly to tackle problems related to dependency, long-term care and disability. Some interesting projects are the leadership of projects financed by the European Social Fund on comparative long-term care and women policies; in 2007 we can highlight the coordination of the project Free movement and equal opportunities for all -LivingAll-funded by the 6th Framework Programme. Currently, he is leading the Polibienestar team in the project Health systems and long-term care for older persons in Europe (INTERLINKS), funded by the 7th Framework Programme and Friends Online funded by the European Programme Daphne.
Jorge Garcés has visited the following Universities as a researcher: Washington, Lisbon, Paris Dauphine, Kent, Cambridge, Chimbote (Peru) and Oxford. He has also awarded Honorary Doctor by the University of San Pedro (Peru) for the excellence of his career. He has also be requested to participate as expert in national and international expert committees, such as Spanish Deputy Congress and EC Independent Expert of the 7th Framework Programme in the area of health.
